Prenatal Massage:
We are pleased to announce that our office now offers prenatal massage with a certified prenatal massage therapist.
Prenatal massage has several benefits to both mother and child. Stress is the number one enemy of a healthy pregnancy. Fortunately, prenatal massage reduces stress, promotes relaxation, and reduces anxiety. It decreases chronic muscle tension, restores postural balance and normlizes joint range of motion. The baby also benefits from the massages by fostering deep breathing and stimulating circulation, thus bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the womb. Women often face many discomforts in pregnancy which can be eased by massage, such as swelling, nausea, and varicose veins. Prenatal massage ultimately prepares women physically, emotionally, and mentally for labor.
Gone are the days when pregnancy massage was considered unsafe. As long as the mother is healthy and does not have any underlying conditions or complications such as preeclampsia, pregnancy massage is recommended and encouraged. Most of the myths surrounding prenancy massage have been dispelled. We now know that massage does not cause miscarriage, and therefore it is no longer contraindicated to receive massage during the first trimester. Although there are some acupressure point on the hands and feet that can stimulate labor, normal light massage of the hands and feet are completely acceptable.
Our prenatal massages are done with the Oakworks Side Lying Position System TM, specially created for prenatal clients. Women will feel most comfortable with their bodies supported as they lay on their sides during their massage sessions. Enjoy complete relaxation with our certified prenatal massage therapists.
